Replacing carbon fiber with basalt fiber will become a new trend
At present, glass fiber is widely used, while carbon fiber is used for products with high performance requirements and high costs. However, these materials cannot fully meet the current requirements. Some properties of glass fiber may have certain defects, such as durability, application temperature, chemical stability, especially in alkaline environments, while carbon fiber has high cost and cannot be widely used. Compared with glass, carbon fiber, and other types of fibers, basalt fiber has better physical and mechanical properties than glass fiber, and is much cheaper than carbon fiber. Basalt fiber has the most preferred performance parameters and cost-effectiveness.
Research has found that basalt fiber can serve as a substitute for almost all application products of glass fiber, and in some applications can also serve as a substitute for carbon fiber. Basalt fiber has become a strong competitor to composite fiber-reinforced materials. Using industrial technology to produce basalt fiber is 10 times cheaper than the cost price of carbon fiber. And the performance of basalt fiber is very close to that of carbon fiber. So basalt fiber is expected to replace expensive carbon fiber and produce carbon basalt composite materials.
